Mission Statement:

The objective of our mission is to observe the onset of the normal field instability (NFI) in a ferrofluid and characterize the role of gravity in stabilizing the surface of the ferrofluid against deformation driven by magnetization.

Team Members:

Amelia Gear is a senior with a Physics and Studio Art double major, and an Art History minor. She plans to graduate in 2015. She is the president of the Carthage chapter of the Society of Physics Students. She has been a Supplemental Instruction Leader for the Carthage Physics Department for three years, and is a student representative for the Physics Department in the Natural Sciences Division and a Physics Fellow. Amelia will be participating in the RockSat-C program for the second time. In addition, she was also the outreach coordinator for Carthage’s 2012-2013 SEED team.  

Tessa Rundle is a junior majoring in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics. She plans to graduate in 2016. This will be her second year on Carthage’s RockSat-C team. She is the secretary for the Carthage chapter of the Society of Physics Students and a member of Math Club. Tessa also is a Student Intern at the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium.  

Justin Barhite is a sophomore Physics and Mathematics double major. He plans to graduate in 2017 and go on to graduate school for physics. He will be participating in the RockSat-C program for the second time this year. He is the treasurer for the Carthage chapter of the Society of Physics Students. He is a Supplemental Instruction Leader for the Carthage Physics Department, as well as a Resident Assistant.  

Jordan Rice is a sophomore with a major in Physics and a double minor in Mathematics and Studio Art. She plans to graduate in 2017 and go on to graduate school in Astrophysics at the University of Arizona. She is the historian for the Carthage chapter of the Society of Physics Students and a member of Math Club.  She is also the Photo Editor for The Current, the student run newspaper at Carthage.
