The Next How To Workshop

June 22 - 27*, 2008

2008 Registration

Register by April 16, 2008

  • THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE AMAZING!  You will build a REAL sounding rocket payload then LAUNCH it (weather permitting).  The logistics associated with the RockOn Workshop are great and we need an accurate count of the number of participants before April 16, 2008.  Space is limited and your registration does not hold your spot until payment is received.  The $1,500 registration may seem large but it includes: a hot breakfast and lunch each day of the workshop plus dinner on the first and last day, workshop handbook and DVD-ROM, shirt, RockOn payload materials (each participant will take home ~$300.00 of reusable hardware that has flown in space), and launch costs.  Participants will work in teams of three.  Each team will build one RocketSat.  Each participant must be present on the first day (Sunday, June 22, 2008 5:00 PM) for the start of the workshop (held at the Refuge Inn).  Please see the Travel page for more information.

  • The workshop is open to all interested with the following exceptions:

    1. Participants must know how to solder and must be familiar with the C and/or C++ programming language.  After registration, a pre-workshop test will be sent and will be required to be successfully completed by each person before the workshop.  Also, a soldering tutorial will need to be completed before the workshop.

    2.  Due to security requirements at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, U.S. citizenship is required.  If you are not a U.S. citizen, please contact Chris Koehler before proceeding.

  • * Launch day is scheduled for June 27, 2008 but the back-up date is June 28, 2008.  Please plan accordingly.

Are you familiar with the C and/or C++ programming language?

Do you agree to complete a pre-workshop test that will be sent to you after you register and submit it before the workshop as directed?

Do you agree that you WILL be at the Refuge Inn at 5:00 PM for the start of the workshop on June 22, 2008 in order to participate in the weeklong workshop?

Do you acknowledge that the workshop launch on a Orion sounding rocket out of NASA's Wallops Flight Facility is weather dependant?

Do you acknowledge that the workshop launch could be on Saturday?

Do you acknowledge that the workshop launch could be moved to the week following the workshop if weather is a factor?

Do you acknowledge that while this workshop is based on the very successful Boulder BalloonSat workshops, the RockOn workshop is new and has never been done before and some things may not go as planned?:)

    Special Request / Needs:

NASA HQ has funded the launch for this workshop.   Therefore the costs associated for the RockOn workshop launch are covered.  However, in order to cover the costs associated with the workshop itself, at least 30 participants must be registered and paid in full by April 16, 2008.  If the number of participants is below 30 on April 16, 2008, we may have to ask for each person registered for a supplement to their registration fee (an additional $75 to $200).   This would be voluntary.   If requested before April 16, 2008, refunds will be made minus 10% for bank charges.  No refunds will be issued after April 16, 2008.  If you are not able to attend the workshop after submitting your registration fee and it is past April 16, 2008, you may send someone in your place.  We apologize for the necessity of this FINE PRINT but we have many up-front expenses in order to put this workshop on.  If you say you are coming, we will be spending money before you get here.  If you don't come, the money is already spent.  If you have any questions about these conditions, please contact me directly before submitting your registration.  I, Chris Koehler, can be reached at 303-492-4750 or by email by clicking here.  It is best not to make any airline ticket purchases before April 16, 2008.  We would recommend you make your hotel reservations as soon as your registration has been confirmed.

Before submitting your registration, check the box if you agree to the fine print listed above.    I agree with the conditions listed above in the Fine Print above

Please click the "Submit" button if you are ready to submit your registration information.  It may take a minute for your information to be sent.  You will be directed to confirmation page when your submission has been successful.  If you are paying by credit card, you will be directed to a secure website to make your payment.
